Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens is an American artist and rapper, best recognized under the stage name, Queen Latifah. In film, music and television Queen Latifah has received two Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award, six more Grammy nods and has been nominated for her Emmy Award. Queen Latifah is the daughter of the Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and an Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior was raised and born in Newark New Jersey. The couple divorced when Latifah was 10 years old. Latifah lived within the Baptist faith and attended Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. Latifah was the stage name she used at the time she turned eight. It means very delicate in Arabic. Latifah was always large, at 5'10" She was a power forward of her high-school basketball team. In a school production, she performed the song Home from The Wiz. Latifah was part of Ladies Fresh, a rap group that launched her career in beatboxing. Latifah was one of the founding members of the model of the Flavor Unit which at that time consisted composed of MCs and producers led by DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King created an example of the rap Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. He then gave it to Yo! MTV Raps Fab 5 Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music who was working for Latifah at the time was awed by her song. In 1988, she dropped Wrath of My Madness as the first single by Latifah.
